DRC Minister for Transport and Communication Signs the Revised Northern Corridor Agreement

On the 27th of May 2008, H. E. Charles Mwando Nsimba, the Minister for Transport and Communications of the Democratic Republic of Congo appended his signature to the revised Northern Agreement.

This historic event took place in Goma in Eastern DR Congo and was witnessed by the TTCA Executive Secretary, Mr Godfrey M Onyango, other senior staff members of the TTCA Secretariat, DR Congo Government officials, as well as members of the business community using the Northern Corridor.

KRC Prepares a Long-term Master Plan
On 29th April 2008, Kenya Railways Corporation (KRC) convened a stakeholders Forum on Railways development Master plan 2050.

The Forum was attended by various stakeholders from private and public sectors. The Forum took note of the current inefficiencies of the Kenya Railways Systems which have a negative impact on transport of goods and are also magnificent on the roads infrastructure that cannot cope with the increasing shift of traffic from rail to road.

ECOWAS and UEMOA Visits the Northern Corridor
A delegation of 30 senior officials from ECOWAS and UEMOA undertook a study tour to the Northern Corridor from the 4th May tothe 7th of May 2008.

The trip was conceived as a training activity for the Chairman of West African National Facilitation Committees in the field of corridor management techniques and aims to draw lessons from the East Africa experience in transit transport facilitation for adaptation to the Western Africa economic and institutional context.

The Northern Corridor Stakeholders' Forum Meeting (9-10 July 2008)
The Northern Corridor Stakeholders Consultative Forum is a model of a Partnership that brings together Chief Executives from both the public and private sector in all the member states of the Northern Corridor.

As a consultative group, the Forum has been instrumental in promoting dialogue between corridor stakeholders as well as facilitating the use of harmonized procedures and documents in transport operations along the Northern Corridor with the aim to reducing the transit times and transport costs.
